The United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI)

Krull & Company proudly became a signatory of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment on June 30 of 2006.  The principles are a set of six voluntary  standards that investment managers pledge to uphold.  These standards are based on environmental, social and governance (ESG) best-practices and are incorporated into investment policy and decision-making.

“We were excited to be a part of the UN’s Principles for Responsible Investment program, and signed on very early.  As a small firm, it put us on level-ground with many large players, while at the same time giving us a competitive advantage. Our small size enables us to provide very customized strategies based on the Principles.”

~ Peter Krull, Krull & Company President

The Six Principles

  1. Incorporating ESG into investment analysis and decision-making processes. We only employ money managers who incorporate qualitative ESG analysis into their investment process.  We constantly monitor the managers for consistency in investment objective and ESG integration.
  1. Being active owners and incorporating ESG issues into ownership policies and practices. Our money managers must have exceptional track records of shareholder advocacy and activism in terms of resolutions filed, company engagement and proxy voting.  Krull & Company regularly monitors progress.
  1. Seeking appropriate disclosure on ESG issues by the companies in which we invest. We believe in the importance of standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI.)  Through our money managers, we believe that active company engagement is vital to transparency and the betterment of company performance.
  1. Promoting acceptance and implementation of the Principles within the investment industry. As members of the Social Investment Forum and PRI, we are actively working to implement our ideals on a much grander scale.  We regularly contribute articles to various magazines and newspapers extolling the virtues of principled investing, and attend several trade shows throughout the year promoting the practice.
  1. Working together to enhance our effectiveness in implementing the Principles. We are committed to promoting the importance of principled investing.  Through the SIF and our money managers, we are working to influence government and large institutional investors in a positive way.  Large-scale acceptance of ESG is vital to a healthy economy and the right kind of growth.
  1. Reporting on our activities and progress towards implementing the Principles. Krull & Company actively reports progress to our clients and stakeholders.  Our annual PRI report discloses specific activities we incorporate along with our money managers to promote and implement ESG.
